Body Composition Analysis

The most effective way to get in shape and stay healthy is to understand your body’s unique structure and needs. A body composition analysis provides great baseline information that helps you tailor a nutritional and exercise program that delivers results. Dr. Miller uses a unique tool called a bioelectrical impedance analysis at his practice to help his patients get to their goals as quickly and effectively as possible. What is a body composition analysis?

If you’re looking for a way to improve your nutrition or just practice good overall preventive care, the traditional first stop has been the body mass index (BMI) calculator. By plugging in your height and weight (and sometimes your age), this simple tool calculates a number that determines your body fat ratio.

Though the BMI calculator is a useful a place to start, it falls short of considering conditions that are unique to you, such as:

  • Bone structure
  • Muscle mass
  • Water weight
  • Distribution of fat

For a more accurate analysis of your body’s composition, Dr. Miller uses bioelectrical impedance analysis, or BIA.

How does a BIA work?

When Dr. Miller performs a BCA, he turns to a bioelectrical impedance analysis, or BIA. A BIA is a scientifically-validated way to measure your body's health through the

distribution of fluids throughout your body. The distribution of these fluids provides Dr. Miller with a wealth of information, including your:

  • Tissue integrity
  • Cellular integrity
  • Active tissue mass
  • Fat mass
  • Hydration and toxicity levels

With a BIA, Dr. Miller is able to monitor and measure your progress in order to best meet your goals.

Why do I need a body composition analysis?

There are many reasons why a BCA is a good idea, such as:

Overall health and wellness

Through a BCA, Dr. Miller provides you with valuable information about toxicity levels and tissue and cell integrity. If any of these results are cause for alarm, Dr. Miller helps you get back to within normal levels through nutritional recommendations.

Disease management

Many diseases and conditions can be helped by improving your body’s composition. When you achieve correct ratios among muscle, fat, and tissue, your entire body functions better, allowing it to continue its natural healing processes uninterrupted.

Prevention is the best way to avoid major, life-altering conditions and diseases, and making sure your body is in great working order goes a long way toward prevention. A body composition analysis provides valuable information on which you can act and correct to prevent problems from developing.
